JU'nior' JITSU is for children aged five to seven.  The session lasts an hour and has a focus on fun and fitness.  We play games and have competitions that are designed to develop listening skills, self-confidence , strength and stamina.  We learn how to escape from grabs, how to fall safely and how to reduce the chances of being bullied.  We learn strikes and throws and how to defend ourselves on the ground.  We learn to win and to lose.  Above all, we learn to respect ourselves and others. The children use up all their energy in a fun and focussed way.

Ju Jitsu is our class for students aged fourteen to adult.  Sessions last an hour and a half and are devoted to developing key skills - sparring, ground-fighting, striking etc - and syllabus knowledge, enabling students to progress towards black belt. Our class is energetic, our Ju Jitsu thoughtful and our approach is realistic.  In my view it is the most practical of the traditional martial arts.

Our style of Jitsu is Shirobara Ju JItsu, a westernised style that incorporates an explicit self-defense focus in addition to traditional Ju Jitsu.  We are affiliated to Martial Arts GB and the Mushin Budo Association.

Young Samurai is for older children, aged up to thirteen.  Students in this class want to have fun but also make progress towards black belt.   We play fewer games, practice throwing techniques and introduce sparring.  Our training is a little more realistic, giving everyone who attends a really good idea of what a “real”, grown-up martial arts class is like.
